Week 1 PulsePicks Notebook: Every Game, the Line, and What Our Model Sees
Welcome to the first weekly PulsePicks Notebook. Think of this as the notes behind the board — a quick "double-click" on every Week 1 game so you can see the market line, where the expert consensus leans, and what our model actually projects, all in one place. We publish this before the games each week, and a Weekly Wrap after, where we grade how our picks did against the spread.
Two honest notes up front. First, this is a quiet opening week: our numbers land close to the market almost everywhere, so the whole board sits in the 50–60% range and there are no upset alerts. Second, injuries and weather move fast — everything below reflects the latest reports as of Wednesday of Week 1, and statuses can change right up to kickoff. We'd rather tell you what we actually know than pretend to certainty we don't have.
How to read each game: the market line is the book's number, our projection is our model's own view of the game, and the PulsePick is the side we back — which falls out of the gap between those two. When our projected margin clears the market number, we take the favorite; when it falls short, we take the points with the underdog.
Commanders at Eagles — Sun 9/13, 4:25 PM ET
Market: Philadelphia -5.5. The expert consensus is on the Eagles, and so are we. Our model projects Philadelphia to win by about 6, just past the number, so we lean Eagles -5.5 (60%) — every one of our models lines up here, making it our most confident call of the week. Rain is possible in Philadelphia on Sunday, which could hold scoring down a touch.
Patriots at Seahawks — Wed 9/9, 8:20 PM ET
Market: Seattle -3.0. The consensus sides with Seattle, and our model agrees, projecting the Seahawks by about 4, so we lean Seahawks -3.0 (59%). Injury watch: New England ruled out RB TreVeyon Henderson (ankle), which pushes a heavier load onto Rhamondre Stevenson. The forecast is clean — dry, low-70s, light wind.
49ers at Rams — Thu 9/10, 8:35 PM ET (in Australia)
Market: L.A. Rams -3.5. The consensus and our model both back the Rams; we project them by about 5, so we lean Rams -3.5 (56%). Injury watch: the Rams are without star DT Aaron Donald for the opener. This one's a neutral-site international game in Australia, with fair conditions expected.
Jets at Titans — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Tennessee -1.5. The consensus leans Tennessee, and our model projects the Titans by about 3, so we lean Titans -1.5 (54%). No major injury or weather concerns as of midweek.
Saints at Lions — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Detroit -7.0. The consensus is on Detroit, and our model projects the Lions by about 7 — landing right on the market's number — so we lean Lions -7.0 (53%). It's rare for our projection and a bigger market line to agree this cleanly.
Packers at Vikings — Sun 9/13, 4:25 PM ET
Market: Minnesota -1.5. Here's our first real disagreement: the market and the expert consensus both favor Minnesota, but our model projects Green Bay to win the game outright by about 1. So we take the points with Packers +1.5 (53%). Our power model is on Green Bay; our analyst model sits on Minnesota — a genuine split that keeps the confidence honest.
Ravens at Colts — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Baltimore -3.5. The consensus leans Baltimore. Our model also has the Ravens winning — but only by about 2, short of the number — so we take Colts +3.5 (51%). Injury watch: Indianapolis WR Alec Pierce (heel) was limited but appears on track to play.
Buccaneers at Bengals — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Cincinnati -3.5. The consensus leans Tampa Bay, but our model projects the Bengals by about 4, so we lean Bengals -3.5 (50%). Injury watch: Cincinnati got good news, with WRs Ja'Marr Chase (knee) and Tee Higgins (foot) both practicing fully and on track; Tampa Bay is banged up, with RB Sean Tucker a game-time decision.
Falcons at Steelers — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Pittsburgh -3.5. The consensus leans Pittsburgh. Our model has the Steelers by only about 3 — under the number — so we take Falcons +3.5 (50%). No major injury or weather concerns as of midweek.
Bears at Panthers — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Carolina +3.0 (Bears favored by 3). The consensus leans Chicago, but our model projects the Bears by only about 2 — short of the 3 — so we take Panthers +3.0 (50%). Injury watch: Chicago WR Rome Odunze (foot) is day-to-day and didn't practice Wednesday — one to watch. Rain is possible in Charlotte.
Browns at Jaguars — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Jacksonville -8.5. The consensus leans Jacksonville. Our model has the Jaguars by about 8 — just under the big number — so we take Browns +8.5 (50%). Injury watch: Cleveland G Teven Jenkins (back) is dealing with a new injury, and Jacksonville WR Jakobi Meyers (thumb) was limited. Rain is possible in Jacksonville.
Bills at Texans — Sun 9/13, 1:00 PM ET
Market: Houston +1.5 (Bills favored by 1.5). The consensus leans Buffalo, but our model sees a near coin flip — so we take the points with Texans +1.5 (50%). Rain is in the Houston forecast; the Texans may close the retractable roof if it turns severe.
Dolphins at Raiders — Sun 9/13, 4:25 PM ET
Market: Las Vegas -3.5. The consensus leans Las Vegas. Our model has the Raiders by about 3 — under the number — so we take Dolphins +3.5 (50%). Injury watch: Las Vegas is without All-Pro TE Brock Bowers (meniscus) for the opener, with Michael Mayer starting in his place.
Cardinals at Chargers — Sun 9/13, 4:25 PM ET
Market: L.A. Chargers -9.5. The consensus leans Arizona, but our model projects the Chargers by about 10, just past the number, so we lean Chargers -9.5 (50%) — one of the few spots where our number clears a big market line. No major injury or weather concerns as of midweek.
Cowboys at Giants — Sun 9/13, 8:20 PM ET (Sunday Night)
Market: N.Y. Giants +3.0 (Cowboys favored by 3). The consensus leans Dallas, but our model has the Cowboys by only about 1 — short of the 3 — so we take Giants +3.0 (50%). Injury watch: Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) was a full participant and is "ready to go" in his return from last season's ACL tear.
Broncos at Chiefs — Mon 9/14, 8:15 PM ET (Monday Night)
Market: Kansas City -2.5. The consensus leans Denver, but our model projects the Chiefs by about 3, so we lean Chiefs -2.5 (50%). Injury watch: Patrick Mahomes is set to start about nine months after tearing his ACL and LCL — a remarkable recovery. Rain is possible for the Monday night finale.
That's the full board. Remember what the confidence number means: it's how strongly our signals align, not a promise. A 60% lean is our strongest kind of call this week, and even that will lose plenty over a season. Track every pick — wins and losses — on our public leaderboard, and check back for the Week 1 Wrap once the results are in.
