Week 2 PulsePicks Notebook: Every Game, the Line, and What Our Model Sees
Welcome to the Week 2 PulsePicks Notebook — the notes behind the board. This is a double-click on every game on the slate: the market's number, what our model actually sees, and the side we land on. It publishes before kickoff; a Weekly Wrap follows once the games are played.
Week 2 has a bit more conviction than the opener. Our confidence runs from 50% up to 64%, and there are three upset alerts this week — spots where the model likes an underdog to win outright: the Jaguars (+2.5), the Cardinals (+4.5), and the Falcons (+2.5). Even so, "more conviction" is relative; a 64% call is a lean, not a lock, and much of the board still sits near a coin flip.
One caution before you read on: the injury notes below reflect the latest reports as of this morning and can change by kickoff. We're also coming off a rough Week 1, so take the confidence numbers for exactly what they are — signal alignment, not a promise. Re-check anything you plan to lean on.
How to read each game: the market line is the book's number; our projection is our model's own view of the margin; the PulsePick falls out of the gap between the two — when our projected margin clears the number we take the favorite, and when it falls short we take the points with the underdog.
Jaguars at Broncos — Sun 4:05 PM ET
Denver is laid -2.5 at home, but our model projects Jacksonville to win the game outright by about 3, and the expert consensus is on the same side. That makes this our top upset alert of the week. Jaguars +2.5 (64%) — our most-confident call on the board.
Seahawks at Cardinals — Sun 4:25 PM ET
The book makes Seattle a 4.5-point road favorite, and the expert consensus leans that way too. Our model disagrees, projecting Arizona to win outright by about 2, so we take the home dog and flag the upset. Cardinals +4.5 (60%).
Browns at Buccaneers — Sun 1:00 PM ET
Tampa Bay is a big -8.5 favorite at home, and the expert consensus is on the Bucs. Our model projects Tampa Bay by about 9, a hair past the number, so we lay it. Buccaneers -8.5 (58%).
Panthers at Falcons — Sun 1:00 PM ET
Atlanta is a home dog getting +2.5, and that is exactly the side we want: our model projects the Falcons to win outright by about 2, even though the expert consensus leans the other way, toward Carolina. Our third upset alert of the week. Falcons +2.5 (55%).
Packers at Jets — Sun 1:00 PM ET
Green Bay is laid -4.5 on the road, and the expert consensus leans Packers. Our model sees Green Bay winning by only about 2, short of the number, so we take the points with the Jets. Jets +4.5 (54%).
Lions at Bills — Thu 8:15 PM ET
The Thursday night opener has Buffalo at -4.5, with the expert consensus on the Bills. Our model projects Buffalo by about 5, just past the number, so we back the favorite. Bills -4.5 (53%).
Vikings at Bears — Sun 1:00 PM ET
Chicago is laid -5.5 at home, and here the expert consensus is with us on the points. Our model projects the Bears by about 5, a half-point shy of the number, so we take Minnesota and the points. Vikings +5.5 (52%).
Commanders at Cowboys — Sun 4:25 PM ET
Dallas is -4.5 at home, with the expert consensus on the Cowboys. Our model projects Dallas by about 5, just past the number, so we lay it. Cowboys -4.5 (52%).
Dolphins at 49ers — Sun 4:25 PM ET
San Francisco is a heavy -13.5 favorite, and the expert consensus actually leans the other way, toward Miami and the points. Our model likes the favorite here, projecting the Niners by about 15, past the number, so we lay the big number. 49ers -13.5 (52%).
Colts at Chiefs — Sun 8:20 PM ET
On Sunday night, Kansas City is laid -6.5 at home, with the expert consensus leaning Indianapolis and the points. Our model projects the Chiefs by about 8, past the number, so we lay it. Chiefs -6.5 (52%). Kansas City will be without running back Isiah Pacheco, who had back surgery and faces a lengthy absence.
Giants at Rams — Mon 8:15 PM ET
The Monday night finale has the Rams at -7.0 at home, with the expert consensus on Los Angeles. Our model is cooler on that number — it projects the Rams by only about 5, short of the touchdown — so we take the points with the Giants. Giants +7.0 (52%).
Eagles at Titans — Sun 1:00 PM ET
Philadelphia is laid -7.0 on the road, and the expert consensus leans the Eagles. Our model projects Philadelphia by only about 5, short of the number, so we take the home points with Tennessee. Titans +7.0 (50%). Note that the Eagles are without star receiver A.J. Brown, who landed on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain.
Steelers at Patriots — Sun 1:00 PM ET
New England is -5.5 at home, with the expert consensus on the Patriots. Our model projects New England by about 5, a half-point shy of the number, so we take the points with Pittsburgh. Steelers +5.5 (50%).
Saints at Ravens — Sun 1:00 PM ET
Baltimore is a big -8.5 home favorite, and the expert consensus leans Ravens. Our model projects Baltimore by about 8, just under the number, so we take the points with New Orleans. Saints +8.5 (50%).
Bengals at Texans — Sun 1:00 PM ET
Houston is a short -2.5 favorite, with the expert consensus leaning the Texans. Our model projects Houston by only about 2, short of the number, so we take the points with Cincinnati. Bengals +2.5 (50%).
Raiders at Chargers — Sun 4:05 PM ET
Los Angeles is laid -7.0 at home, and the expert consensus is on the Chargers. Our model projects the Chargers by about 6, short of the touchdown, so we take the points with Las Vegas. Raiders +7.0 (50%).
The bottom line
A reminder on the number itself: our confidence percentage measures how tightly our signals line up, not how likely you are to cash. The three upset alerts (Jaguars, Cardinals, Falcons) are the spots where the model is loudest, but "loudest" still tops out at 64% — even our best call loses plenty, and Week 1 was a blunt reminder of that. Track how it all shakes out on the public leaderboard, and look for the Week 2 Weekly Wrap once the games are done.
